Thank you, volcano! Thanks to you, I detoured, and had a stopover at Los Angeles. I was able to meet up with childhood friends (they're sisters): Daniela and Yemina Alcayde. We spent some happy hours in Santa Monica. I got to know their kids, met Daniela's husband, Justin, again, and met Daniela's mother-in-law. This has really made all the "travel troubles" more than worthwhile!

1980-something, in Lesotho. Ready to conquer the world!
1980-y pico, en Lesotho. Listas para conquistar el mundo.

1990 - mi ultimo cumpleanios antes que ellas fueran a vivir a Italia.
1990 - the last birthday before they left for Italy.
1989?? Por ahi...
Sometime around 1989.

La gran felicidad: los caballos y Ruth!!
Our greatest joy: horses and Ruth!

Nos entreteniamos con muy poco...
We had fun with so little...
I love Lesotho!!
Tan alto trepabamos? Gracias, ma, pa, por dejarnos explorar!!
Thanks, mom, dad, for letting us climb high trees! What a great childhood!

"Twins". It was such fun when the local people would confuse us, not knowing which of us was Yemina and which of us was Marlise.

"Mellizas".

Remember Cheddar, the Glass's dog?

Back to the future: the second kid from the right is Yemina's husband, Seth.

Is there anything more beautiful? Daniela in the Cosmos fields.

With tiny Nyakallo. We're on FB now and she's a grown woman!

1993 - the grand reunion after about 3 years, in California. We were 12, 13 and 14 years old then. That's the last time I'd seen Yemina (Daniela and I saw each other 5 years ago).

2010 - Gran Encuentro Gran.

2010 - the Big Reunion. These are Yemina's babies: Havah and Noah.

Yemina & Marlise

Yemina drove for 5 hours, with a baby and a 2-year-old, plus nausea from something she ate - all for this meeting. Thanks, Yemina! And thanks, Daniela, for having her over!

A jet-lagged face, kept awake with a coke plus capucchino...

Daniela & Marlise

Daniela's beautiful babies: Eliyah and Aviellah. And with a little baby boy on the way!

Vistas de Japon - Views of Japan

Vistas de Japon desde el avion... Aunque sea esto pude conocer de Japon!

I could at least get a glimpse of Japan from the plane!

Special Friday Night

We had a lovely Friday evening with Premjit (Thai) and Aichi (Japanese). We had food and music (Aichi´s violin - we played together). Too bad they´re moving to Japan in June, so we can´t have a repeat!

Visitas Argentinas

We don´t often get Argentinians visiting us here, so we were delighted to meet up with Paula and Alex Vargas, who came to take a course here. Paula was Doris´classmate in high school, and Alex was Daniel´s classmate.

Ebony and Ivory

The other day, when I was coming out of work, I saw these two really cute dogs roaming together. Inspired, I called them "Ebony and Ivory". They cheered my day, so I couldn't help taking their picture!
(That pile of earth you see is a water pipe that's being fixed).

Funny Student Writing

Teaching in an ESL context has its charm. I'll let the following pics speak for themselves:

In case you can't read it properly:

"Motorbike for sale: If you are interesting! Come and try it on!!"

This had been written on the whiteboard one day when I reached the classroom. :-)

They had to see who could write a sentence using as many /I/ sound words as they could. This one won...

New solution if you happen to forget what the date is!
(BTW, if you're wondering why on earth an Advanced class needs to review "do" and "be" auxiliaries, don't worry - I wonder that myself!)

The Reds

Last time we went to Bangkok, the "Red Shirts" had just taken over the main commercial- touristic part of the city. It was still peaceful then.
