Malaysia III: Kuching, Sarawak

Dinner in Kuching. De guy in yellow is Randy, a graduate from Mission College. I call him our "Superman" because thanks to him, we were able to tour Kuching and try out delicious dishes!

Kuching is known as the cat city, so there are plenty of cat statues around. "Kuching" means "cat" in Malay. A long time ago, the city had a rat invasion, so they brought in a whole lot of cats to kill them off. That's where the name of the city comes from.

I loved the teas in Malaysia! Here I'm trying out "3-layered tea" (I don't remember what each layer is, I'll tell you later!)

Randy has a little food place where we tried great food for breakfast. Here's some "bamboo chicken" (chicken cooked inside a bamboo, eaten with greens and brown rice).

Another one of my favourite teas: "te tare" - it's "pulled" and made really smooth:

Te tare listo! (Eramos varios queriendo fotografiar el momento!)

Te tare is ready! (There were a few of us trying to get pictures of the moment!)

Here's our group. The woman in read is Claire, whom I now call "wonderwoman". She knows MC well, and made arrangements with Randy for us to get to know Kuching. The man in yellow is Randy's brother. Thanks, Randy and Claire, and Randy's brother, for your generosity!

Near the river at Kuching, listening to traditional music and enjoying the sights.

Randy made me try this dessert. I thought it was weird that it had corn and beans (along with coconut milk and ice) but I loved it and it was very refreshing!

Trying one of the many kinds of noodles.

These layered cakes are a local specialty. I couldn't try them because there was no more space in my stomach, but they're so beautiful I just had to get a picture!
